Piraeus to Folegandros is the direct way from Athens to one of the most atmospheric small islands in the Cyclades. Folegandros is known for its Chora, a whitewashed village built right along the edge of a sea cliff, and for quiet beaches reached on foot or by small boat. It is a place for slow days, and the ferry sets the tone: boats run on 4 to 7 days a week, and on our 12 August 2026 sample there were two morning departures (07:00 and 09:00).
You leave from Piraeus, Athens' main port, and arrive at Karavostasis, the small harbour on the south coast of Folegandros. From there it is only about five minutes by car up to Chora, where most visitors stay. Karavostasis itself has a few cafés, tavernas and hotels by the water.
Folegandros fits well into a western or southern Cyclades route. From here you can continue to Milos, Sikinos, Ios or Santorini, which makes it a natural stop between the busier islands rather than only a dead end from Athens.
Before booking, compare the two options carefully. The Seajets fast boat saves roughly two to four hours but costs noticeably more, while the Fast Ferries conventional ship is cheaper, carries cars and has cabins, but takes most of the day. With few sailings and limited rooms on the island, book both ferry and accommodation early for July and August.
