10Cyclades hotel guide

Picking the right island for your stay.

By George K. · Research assist: Touristas AI

The Cyclades are 24 inhabited Greek islands in the Aegean. They share a ferry network, but the holiday feel changes a lot from one island to the next. Santorini and Mykonos lead on spectacle and on price: famous hotels, famous views. Paros, Naxos and Milos sit in the middle, with beaches, food, nightlife and good-value hotels. Then come the quiet ones: Serifos, Folegandros, Amorgos and the Small Cyclades east of Naxos, where you trade the famous sunsets for empty roads and a handful of tavernas.

Prices follow a reliable pattern. The week of 15 August (the Assumption) is the busiest of the year in Greece: Tinos fills with pilgrims, ferries sell out and hotel rates climb steeply everywhere. Work back from there. Late June to mid-September is high season. May, June and October are the shoulder weeks locals prefer, with a warm sea, open restaurants and lower rates. November to April is low season, and many restaurants on the smaller islands close.

"Rooms to let" is the Greek name for family-run studios, pensions and guesthouses, and the Cyclades take it seriously. We list them next to full hotels, and on the less visited islands they are often the best value. Short-term rentals exist too, but they are regulated: every legal listing carries an AMA registration number. If you want a whole house with a pool, the villa pages are the better place to look.

Rates on this site come from our booking provider when you search, for your exact dates and guests. Checkout shows the room, the board, the total and the cancellation terms before you pay. Ask Touristas AI anything you would ask a travel agent, from which port to use to which village suits a first visit.

FAQ

Common questions.

28 questions travellers ask us most about Cyclades hotels.

  • Late April, May and October usually hit the sweet spot: warm sea, open restaurants, and lower nightly rates than July–August. Santorini and Mykonos still command a premium in June and September.
  • Paros or Naxos are the classic first-timer picks: balanced for beach, food, nightlife and ferry connections to three or four neighbouring islands. Santorini is for sunsets and photos; Mykonos for parties; Milos for the beach hunters.
  • Three nights minimum per island for a proper feel. Two islands over seven nights is the sweet spot for most travellers. Five islands in a week just means you spend a day on every ferry.
  • Yes. Greek "rooms to let" (licensed studios, pensions and guesthouses) appear alongside full hotels: filter by price in any island page to surface the budget tier. Every listing is a licensed operator with an official ΜΗΤΕ registration number.
  • Legitimate short-term rentals are included when the operator has a licensed Greek ΑΜΑ number. If you want a whole-house stay with pool and concierge, see the villa programme; we work with curated partners, not 40,000 anonymous listings.
  • Yes. Scroll down to the villa CTA, or visit our villa partners directory. We focus on hand-picked operators with local teams on the island, not OTAs reselling the same inventory.
  • January for peak-week multi-room families. Six to eight weeks still works for a single couple room on less-visited islands. Santorini caldera suites fill first.
  • On the bigger islands (Naxos, Paros, Andros, Tinos) yes, to explore mountain villages and empty beaches. On compact ones (Koufonisia, Folegandros, Sikinos) no: walk or hire an ATV.
  • Yes in high season (May–October). Blue Star, Hellenic Seaways, SeaJets and Golden Star all operate. We sell the tickets: see the ferry panel below.
  • A trailing median from recent rate snapshots: a helpful anchor, not a peak-season guarantee. Add your dates to load live nightly pricing when that hotel is connected to our booking network. If it is not connected, we say so instead of showing a fake book button.
  • When a hotel is connected to our booking network, yes: we lock the price with a prebook, you pay on this site, and the hotel confirms. Featured partners that are not in the live feed do not have on-site checkout: we send you to the hotel website and we say that clearly. We do not advertise live rates we cannot sell.
  • Most hotels offer a refundable rate alongside a cheaper non-refundable one. Filter by "Free cancellation" in the search sidebar. The booking step always shows exactly what is refundable and until when.
  • No. Our booking fee is zero. Greece's Climate Crisis Resilience Fee (Τέλος Ανθεκτικότητας στην Κλιματική Κρίση) is €0.50–€10 per room per night, depending on star rating and season. It is paid to the hotel on arrival, and we flag it in the total before you confirm.
  • Naxos and Paros lead: long sandy beaches with shallow water, short transfers, and plenty of hotels with family rooms or connecting doubles. Serifos and Milos work for slightly older kids who love beach exploration.
  • Santorini and Folegandros are the two classic honeymoon choices. Both have plenty of cave-suite and adults-only properties with caldera views. Milos and Sifnos are quieter alternatives.
  • Syros, Paros and Sifnos have the best mix of fibre-speed Wi-Fi, workable hotel desks, and a café scene you can work from. Stays over 7 nights often unlock monthly discounts.
  • Drinkable everywhere in Greece, but brackish on most Cyclades islands (they desalinate). Most travellers prefer filtered / bottled water. All hotels provide it free.
  • Variable. Syros, Mykonos town and Naxos town have the most accessible infrastructure. We flag accessible rooms in the hotel results. Open Touristas AI with your specific needs for a tailored shortlist.
  • A growing number of properties are pet-friendly: filter by "Pet friendly" in the island pages. Ferry operators carry pets in designated kennels or cabins.
  • Strongly recommended for any international trip, especially given the ferry-dependency of Cyclades holidays. Some credit cards include it; most regular policies cover cancellation.
  • Euros everywhere. Cards accepted in all hotels and most restaurants / shops. Keep €50 cash for buses, small kafeneia and the occasional rural taverna.
  • Not yet in a single checkout, but you can book each on this site back-to-back with the same email, and we cross-link the confirmations. End-to-end itinerary tools are coming in 2026.
  • Three reasons. One: rates are searched for your exact dates, not shown as a marketing 'from' price. Two: honest trailing medians when you don't have dates yet. Three: we're a small Greek team that actually knows these islands: ask Touristas AI anything.
  • Our travel assistant. It reads the live hotel catalogue, ferry schedules, weather and historical prices, then answers in plain English. Think "when is the cheapest week to visit Paros with my kids?" It has a real answer.
  • Open the Partners page from the footer. We onboard independent Cyclades properties with 0% commission on direct bookings through our portal.
  • English is primary; Greek, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Chinese and Russian are rolling out. Hotel pages render in the language you request via the URL.
  • Not yet. Partner hotels often offer repeat-guest discounts we can relay: ask Touristas AI or mention it at booking.
  • GDPR-compliant. We store your booking data to complete the reservation and provide support. No third-party marketing use. See the privacy policy in the footer.
