Kimolos is the small, pale island facing Milos across a narrow strait, and it is far quieter than its busy neighbour. Volcanic rock, chalky cliffs and sandy coves ring the coast, and life centres on Chorio, the village just above the port. People come for swimming, walking and a slow pace, often as a quieter base or side trip next to Milos.
From Athens you have a real choice of ship. For most of the year the route is served by conventional ferries from Fast Ferries and Aegean Sea Lines, which call at other islands on the way and take around 6 hours. From June to September Seajets adds a high-speed boat that does the trip in 3 hr 25 min. On 12 August 2026, the day we sampled, that boat, the Champion Jet 1, left Piraeus at 15:00 and was due in Kimolos at 18:25.
The two options differ a lot in price. The conventional ships started at €42 to €43.50 for one adult in Ferryhopper's data, while the Seajets boat started at €78.70. If you are not in a hurry, the slow ship is cheaper, carries cars comfortably and has cabins; if you want to arrive in time for a swim, the summer high-speed boat saves around two and a half hours.
Kimolos has no daily sailings in the low season, so check the weekday before booking. Accommodation on the island is limited and sells out in July and August, and so do car spaces on the ferries. Book both early, then relax: from the port you can walk up to Chorio in about 15 minutes.
