Ferries from Mykonos to Santorini run mainly from March to November, with several daily crossings in peak summer (7 on our 12 August 2026 sample). Ferries depart from the port of Tourlos in Mykonos and arrive at Athinios in Santorini, with the journey taking 2 hours 10 minutes to 3 hours 35 minutes.
This is the headline hop of a first Greek island trip: from the windmills and beach clubs of Mykonos to the volcanic caldera and cliff-top villages of Santorini. The two islands are about 64 nautical miles apart, and many sailings call at other islands on the way, so you see a slice of the central Cyclades as you go. On our 12 August 2026 sample the departures were spread from 09:40 to 18:05, so you could choose a morning boat or an afternoon one.
The ports at both ends need a little planning. On Mykonos you sail from the new port at Tourlos, a short hop north of town, not the old harbour. On Santorini you land at Athinios, a small port at the foot of the caldera cliffs, where the road up to Fira is steep and busy when ships arrive. Knowing how you will get to your hotel before you land saves a lot of stress.
Fares are high by Cyclades standards because the route is served almost entirely by high-speed craft. Booking early helps, since the cheaper seats go first, and in July and August the morning boats fill quickly. If you are travelling with a car, Golden Star Ferries is often the more practical choice, as not every Seajets sailing takes vehicles.
