01The short version

Introduction to Folegandros.

Folegandros is the Cyclades' most romantic secret, a small, rugged island where you'll find a dramatic clifftop Chora hangs above the Aegean, wild hiking paths lead to hidden beaches, and genuine tranquillity is the ultimate luxury. Accommodation is limited and intimate, and fills fast. This is an island for couples, walkers, and anyone seeking beauty without the crowds.

04Planning advice

How to plan your Folegandros stay.

When to book

Folegandros has a short, intense season. June through September. Book 3–4 months ahead for July–August as capacity is very limited. September is magical with warm seas and fewer people.

Practical tips

Ferries from Piraeus take 5–7 hours. No airport, no cars needed (the island is tiny). Walk everywhere or use the minibus. Book accommodation with port transfer as the walk to Chora is uphill. Bring cash, some places don't accept cards.

How to choose

Stay in Chora for the full Folegandros experience, views, dining, and atmosphere. Choose Karavostasis only for budget or ferry convenience. Agali is perfect if beach proximity matters most.

For families

Folegandros is manageable with older children who enjoy hiking and nature. Young families should note the cliff edges in Chora and limited beach facilities. Angali beach is the safest for swimming.

For couples

Folegandros may be the most romantic island in Greece. The Chora cliffs at sunset, dinner under the stars in a tiny square, the walk to Panagia church at dusk, and the sense of being somewhere truly special, this is an island made for love.
