04Schedule by season

Milos (Adamas) to Folegandros ferry schedule by season.

Ferryhopper lists the route all year, on 2 to 7 days a week. Its monthly table, based on last year's data, shows Blue Star Ferries sailing about once a week in each month and Fast Ferries once or twice a week, while Seajets ran in the warmer months, from once a week up to every day. One month showed no data. In summer there is usually a boat on most days, mainly Seajets; in winter you are down to the weekly conventional sailings, so plan around them. On 12 August 2026, the day we sampled, there were 2 departures from Adamas: Seajets at 11:40 and Fast Ferries at 13:10.

The Journey

The Milos (Adamas) to Folegandros crossing.

Milos and Folegandros are two of the most photogenic islands in the south-western Cyclades, and they pair well: Milos for its volcanic coastline and boat trips, Folegandros for its cliff-top Chora, quiet coves and slower pace. This short crossing east from Adamas makes it easy to combine them in one trip, and Folegandros is itself a stepping stone to Sikinos, Ios and Santorini.

The choice of boat is unusually stark here. The conventional ships of Fast Ferries and Blue Star Ferries are very cheap, from €7 per adult when we checked, but each runs only about once or twice a week and takes two hours or more. Seajets does the trip in about an hour, on most days in summer, but costs from €65.70.

That means your sailing day and your budget decide your ticket. If a cheap conventional ship happens to run on the day you want, take it: the time difference is about an hour. If not, the Seajets boat is likely your only direct option, and it is worth booking early in July and August.

Folegandros has no airport, so if you are flying home, plan the last leg carefully. Milos (MLO) and Santorini (JTR) are the nearest airports, both reachable by ferry from Folegandros.

How long the crossing takes

Ferryhopper puts the trip at anything from 55 minutes to just over 4 hours, depending on the boat and its route, and 55 minutes is the shortest time it lists from Milos. In its monthly table for this direction, based on last year's data, Seajets took 55 minutes to 1 hour, Fast Ferries about 1 hr 55 min and Blue Star Ferries about 2 hr 20 min to 2 hr 50 min. On our sample day, 12 August 2026, the Seajets boat took exactly an hour and the Fast Ferries ship 1 hr 55 min. The slowest sailings in Ferryhopper's range follow long island-hopping loops, so check the arrival time before you book.

05The ports

Where the Milos (Adamas) to Folegandros ferry docks.

Departure port

Milos

MLO · 36.7256° N 24.4489° E

Everything leaves from Adamas (Adamantas), the port town of Milos, tucked into the big protected bay on the island's north coast, about 5 km below Plaka. If you are staying in Adamas you can walk to the boat; from Plaka or elsewhere on the island, come by car, taxi or with your host. Restaurants, cafés, shops and car rental offices line the waterfront, handy if you need to return a hire car or wait for a late ship. Milos is a busy port in summer with boats to Piraeus and many islands, so be there at least 45 minutes before departure, and earlier with a vehicle.

Arrival port

Folegandros

FOL · 36.6167° N 24.9333° E

Boats dock at Karavostasis, the main port of Folegandros. It is a small harbour settlement with cafés, restaurants and hotels, plus an ATM, car rental and parking, so you can sort out transport as soon as you land. Chora, the main village, is up the hill inland, so ask your accommodation about a pickup before you sail, or pick up a hire car at the port.

06On Board

On board the Milos (Adamas) to Folegandros ferry.

The crossing is short enough that no ferry on this route offers cabins, but numbered seats can be booked on all of them. Expect air-conditioned lounges and a snack bar on every boat, open decks on the conventional ships, and a Wi-Fi hotspot on most. Seajets allows up to 50 kg of luggage per person; the other companies are more relaxed, and there is no check-in, so you keep your bags with you or in the luggage area. Pets travel free on this route, though you should check the company's pet rules and bring health papers. Facilities for passengers with reduced mobility are available on most vessels.

07Weather and cancellations

Wind, weather and cancellations on the Milos (Adamas) to Folegandros route.

In July and August the meltemi, the strong north wind of the Aegean summer, sweeps across the open water between Milos and Folegandros. That is exactly when Seajets carries most passengers on this route, and its high-speed boats are the first to be delayed or held in port by the port authority on windy days. The conventional ships of Fast Ferries and Blue Star cope better, but they sail only once or twice a week. If your sailing is cancelled, the operator will rebook you or refund the ticket. Because the next direct boat may be a day or more away, keep your plans flexible, especially near a flight.

08Travel Tips

Milos (Adamas) to Folegandros ferry travel tips.

  1. Look for the Fast Ferries or Blue Star sailing if your dates are flexible: from €7 and €7.50, against €65.70 for Seajets.

  2. The conventional ships sail only once or twice a week each, so check the day before planning the rest of your trip.

  3. The Seajets boat is the only fast option; in July and August, book it early.

  4. Arrange a pickup from Karavostasis to Chora with your accommodation before you travel.

  5. Driving? Ferryhopper lists cars from about €30 and motorbikes from about €6, but space is limited, so book ahead.

  • The same three companies sail back to Adamas, with the shortest trip listed at 1 hour and fares from €7 on Ferryhopper when we checked. See our Folegandros to Milos page for details.
