How do you get from Milos (Adamas) to Lavrio by ferry?

We cannot confirm a regular ferry from Milos to Lavrio. Our older route data listed seasonal Blue Star Ferries sailings, but when we checked Ferryhopper on 24 September 2026 it showed no Milos to Lavrio sailings in last year's data and no fare for this direction. The dependable ways back are the daily Milos to Piraeus ferry or, from May to September, a hop to Sifnos or Serifos and a Magic Sea Ferries boat to Lavrio.

  • Blue Star FerriesShown on this route in our older data, but Ferryhopper had no Milos to Lavrio sailings in last year's data when we checked. Blue Star does run the weekly Lavrio to Milos sailing in the other direction.

02Schedule by season

Milos (Adamas) to Lavrio ferry schedule by season.

Ferryhopper's monthly table for this pair of ports, which reflects last year's data, shows the weekly Blue Star Ferries sailing from Lavrio to Milos but no data at all for the Milos to Lavrio direction. Our older route data suggested a seasonal service from April to October, but we could not confirm it. What does run regularly: Milos to Piraeus every day of the year, and, from May to September, Magic Sea Ferries from Sifnos and Serifos to Lavrio on 4 to 7 days a week, with boats linking Milos to both islands on 3 to 7 days a week. Check the connecting times for your date on the booking page before you commit.

The Journey

The Milos (Adamas) to Lavrio crossing.

People look for a Milos to Lavrio ferry for good reasons. Lavrio, on the south-east tip of Attica, is about 35 km from Athens International Airport, and for some travellers it is closer to where they are staying than Piraeus. There is also a Lavrio to Milos sailing in the other direction, so it is natural to expect a return.

The honest answer is that this direction is, at best, irregular. Our own older route data showed Blue Star Ferries sailing it in the warmer months, but Ferryhopper, which lists both directions on its Lavrio to Milos page, had no Milos to Lavrio sailings in any month of last year's data and showed no price when we checked. The outbound Lavrio to Milos boat is itself a once-a-week, multi-stop voyage that usually takes around 16.5 hours, so even if a return appears on the booking page for your date, expect a long, indirect trip.

The good news is that there are two reliable ways to get from Milos to the Athens area. The first is the daily ferry to Piraeus, the main port of Athens. The second, between May and September, is to take a short boat from Milos to Sifnos or Serifos and then the Magic Sea Ferries high-speed service from there to Lavrio, which Ferryhopper lists on 4 to 7 days a week in season.

Before you give up on the direct option, search your exact date on the booking page: schedules change from year to year, and if a Milos to Lavrio sailing is on sale, it will show there. Just do not build a flight connection around a boat you have not been able to book.

How long the crossing takes

Because no Milos to Lavrio sailing appeared in Ferryhopper's data when we checked, there is no reliable crossing time to quote. For comparison, the Lavrio to Milos sailing in the other direction usually takes about 16 to 16 hr 40 min, since the ship calls at other islands on the way, with a few weeks listed at 9 hr 15 min or 4 hr 30 min. The two-step alternative is quicker in practice: Milos to Sifnos takes about 30 minutes to 1 hr 25 min and Sifnos to Lavrio about 2 hr 45 min to 3 hr 10 min, or Milos to Serifos about 1 hr 10 min to 3 hr 10 min and Serifos to Lavrio about 2 hr 5 min to 2 hr 30 min.

03The ports

Where the Milos (Adamas) to Lavrio ferry docks.

Departure port

Milos

MLO · 36.7256° N 24.4489° E

All ferries from Milos leave from Adamas (also written Adamantas), the island's main harbour on its north side, set inside one of the largest natural bays in the Mediterranean. The village is about a two-minute walk from the quay, with cafés, restaurants, ATMs and car rental shops along the waterfront, and buses run from the port area to Plaka, the capital about 4 km away, as well as to Sarakiniko and Pollonia. The port itself has a tourist information office, parking, public toilets and free Wi-Fi. In summer, arrive 45 to 60 minutes before departure.

Arrival port

Athens (Lavrio)

LAV · 37.7131° N 24.0556° E

Lavrio is a small port town on the south-east coast of Attica, about 60 km from central Athens and 35 km from Athens International Airport. The Attica KTEL bus to Pedion tou Areos in central Athens takes about 2 hours depending on traffic, so a taxi or rental car is the quicker way to the airport or the city. The same applies whether you arrive direct from Milos, if a sailing is offered on your date, or via Sifnos or Serifos. The town has tavernas and cafés near the port if you need to wait for your onward transport.

04On Board

On board the Milos (Adamas) to Lavrio ferry.

What you get on board depends on how you travel. Blue Star Ferries, the company named for this route in our older data, uses large conventional ships with lounges, open decks and a café, and Ferryhopper notes that no cabins are sold on its Lavrio to Milos line, so the same is likely on any return. On the two-step option, the island ferries between Milos and Sifnos or Serifos are short hops, and the Magic Sea Ferries boat to Lavrio is a high-speed vessel with air-conditioned lounges, a snack bar and a car deck, where numbered airplane-style seats or a business lounge seat are the choices. Luggage is not checked in on any of them.

05Weather and cancellations

Wind, weather and cancellations on the Milos (Adamas) to Lavrio route.

The meltemi, the strong north wind of July and August, blows down through the western Cyclades, and any trip from Milos north to Attica heads into it. High-speed boats, including the Magic Sea Ferries service from Sifnos and Serifos, are the most likely to be delayed or held in port by the port authority on a windy day; large conventional ships usually sail. If a leg is cancelled, the operator will rebook or refund that ticket, but a missed connection on a separately booked second leg is your own risk, so leave slack. The daily Milos to Piraeus service is the fallback when everything else fails.

06Travel Tips

Milos (Adamas) to Lavrio ferry travel tips.

  1. Search your exact date on the booking page first; if a direct Milos to Lavrio sailing exists that day, it will show there.

  2. For a guaranteed return to Athens any day of the year, book Milos to Piraeus.

  3. Between May and September, combine a short hop to Sifnos or Serifos with the Magic Sea Ferries boat to Lavrio, and book both legs for the same day only if the times leave a comfortable gap.

  4. Flying out of Athens? Lavrio is about 35 km from the airport; a taxi or rental car is far quicker than the bus.

  5. Build in a spare day before any flight: Milos routes are exposed to summer winds, and connections multiply the risk.

07Alternatives

Other ways between Milos (Adamas) and Lavrio.

For the outward trip, see our Lavrio to Milos page, which covers the weekly Blue Star sailing. The main alternative back to the mainland is Milos to Piraeus, which runs every day, from about 3 hours to 7.5 hours depending on the boat. In season you can also go via Sifnos or Serifos to Lavrio. Milos has an airport (MLO) and so does Athens (ATH), so flying is worth comparing on the airline sites.

Questions

Milos (Adamas) to Lavrio ferry: frequently asked questions.

  • Not one we can confirm. Our older route data listed seasonal Blue Star Ferries sailings, but Ferryhopper showed no Milos to Lavrio sailings in last year's data when we checked on 24 September 2026. Search your date on the booking page, and plan on Piraeus or a connection via Sifnos or Serifos if nothing appears.
  • We cannot quote a reliable time, because no current sailing is listed in this direction. The Lavrio to Milos boat in the other direction usually takes about 16 hours with stops. Going via Sifnos takes roughly 30 minutes to 1 hr 25 min to Sifnos, then 2 hr 45 min to 3 hr 10 min to Lavrio, plus the wait between boats.
  • Ferryhopper showed no price for Milos to Lavrio when we checked, which fits the absence of sailings in its data. If a sailing appears for your date, the booking page will show the fare. For the two-leg option, see our Sifnos to Lavrio and Serifos to Lavrio pages for their current starting fares.
  • The daily Milos to Piraeus ferry, which Ferryhopper lists every day of the year, taking about 3 to 7.5 hours depending on the boat. Flying is the other option, as Milos has an airport (MLO). Lavrio makes sense mainly if you are heading for the airport side of Attica.
  • Yes, from May to September. Local boats link Milos with Sifnos (about 30 minutes to 1 hr 25 min) and Serifos (about 1 hr 10 min to 3 hr 10 min), and Magic Sea Ferries sails from both islands to Lavrio on 4 to 7 days a week in season. Check that the connecting times work on your date.
  • Via the two-step route, yes: the conventional island ferries carry vehicles, and the Magic Sea Ferries high-speed boats from Sifnos and Serifos to Lavrio have a car deck. Book both legs early in July and August, when car space is tight on the western Cyclades routes.
  • Yes. Lavrio is about 35 km from Athens International Airport, and a taxi or car is the quickest way there. It is further from central Athens, about 60 km, and the KTEL bus to Pedion tou Areos takes around 2 hours, so Piraeus is better if you are staying in the city.
  • From Adamas (Adamantas), on the north side of the island. The quay has a tourist information office, parking, toilets and free Wi-Fi, and the village with its cafés, ATMs and car rentals is a two-minute walk away. Buses link the port area with Plaka and other villages; arrive 45 to 60 minutes early in summer.
  • We would not risk it. There is no confirmed direct sailing, and the two-step route adds a connection and exposure to summer winds. If you have a flight, take the daily Piraeus ferry or the two-step route a day early, or fly from Milos to Athens.
  • Summer meltemi winds can hold high-speed boats in port. The operator will rebook or refund the cancelled leg, but a separately booked onward boat is not protected, so leave a buffer between connections. Large conventional ships to Piraeus are the most likely to sail on a windy day.
  • Blue Star Ferries sails from Lavrio to Milos about once a week, usually a long voyage of around 16 hours with stops at other islands, with fares from €20 when we checked. See our Lavrio to Milos page for details, or consider Piraeus for a faster trip.
