Santorini, the crown jewel of the Cyclades, is a masterpiece of natural beauty and human architecture. Common questions about planning your Greek island trip

  • Santorini and Mykonos are the most popular. Paros and Naxos offer a more authentic experience with excellent beaches, villages and food at lower prices. All four have direct ferry connections from Athens.

  • A minimum of 7 days covers 2 to 3 islands comfortably. For 4 to 5 islands, plan 10 to 14 days. Allow 2 to 3 full days per island and factor in ferry transfer times when planning your itinerary.

  • Late May to June and September to mid-October offer warm weather, fewer crowds and lower prices. July and August are peak season, with the hottest days and strong meltemi winds.

  • Costs depend mostly on the island, the month and where you sleep. July and August are the most expensive months, and the smaller islands are usually cheaper than Santorini and Mykonos. The budget calculator builds a daily estimate for your own trip.

  • Ferries leave from Piraeus (most islands), Rafina (Andros, Tinos, Mykonos) and Lavrio (Kea, Kythnos). In our timetable sample of 2026-08-12, the fastest crossings were 50m to Andros from Rafina, 1h to Kea from Lavrio and 5h to Santorini from Piraeus.
