Piraeus to Serifos is one of the shortest trips from Athens into the Cyclades, which makes Serifos an easy choice for a short break. The island is rugged and dry, with a hilltop Chora of white houses above the port, beaches such as Psili Ammos and Livadakia, and a history of iron mining that still shows in the landscape. It feels far quieter than the big-name islands, yet it is only a couple of hours from the capital on a fast boat.
You leave from Piraeus, Athens' main port, and arrive at Livadi on the south-east coast of Serifos, a relaxed harbour village with tavernas, shops and most of the island's services. Chora is about 4.5 km uphill, around ten minutes by bus, taxi or car.
Serifos is usually the first stop on the western Cyclades line, so it combines naturally with Sifnos, Milos and Kythnos. One natural plan is Athens to Serifos, on to Sifnos and Milos, then back to Athens from Milos, which also has an airport.
When you book, compare the fast boats with the conventional ferries: the Seajets fare is roughly double, but it saves nearly two hours. Check the arrival time as well: on our 12 August 2026 sample the evening conventional sailing left at 21:00 and reached Serifos at 00:45.
