The Extended Season
Santorini has the longest season in the Cyclades. Hotels often stay open from March to November. October and November are arguably the best times to visit. The cruise ship traffic reduces, the humidity drops (clearing the haze for sunsets), and the water is still warm enough for a dip.
The Wine Harvest
Santorini’s volcanic vineyards produce the famous Assyrtiko wine. The harvest (Vendema) takes place in late August and September, making this a fantastic time for oenophiles to visit the wineries.
Avoid: Mid-day in Oia
In July and August, the narrow streets of Oia become gridlocked with cruise ship passengers. Aim to visit at dawn or in the deeper shoulder months to experience the caldera's true majesty.
