This is a short local crossing, so it does not follow the same pattern as the big inter-island routes. Our sources do not give a departure count or a timetable sample for it, and the monthly frequency table on Ferryhopper's route page covers the mainland to Paros routes rather than this hop, so we cannot quote first and last boats. The ferry from Paros to Antiparos is a key Cyclades connection. The crossing takes about 7 min on the fastest boats, from the port of Pounta, and up to 30 min from Parikia. Sailings are run by small local ferries rather than the big Aegean operators; check the booking page for fares and times on your date.

Antiparos sits just off the west coast of Paros, separated by a narrow, shallow strait. It is a small, laid-back island with one main village, sandy beaches and a famous stalactite cave in the hills, and it has a loyal following among travellers who find Paros itself too busy. Many visitors come for a day of swimming and lunch; others stay a few nights for the slower pace.

You have two ways across, and choosing between them is the main decision. The car ferry from Pounta is the quickest crossing of all, only about 0.7 nautical miles, and the one to use if you are driving. The boats from Parikia take longer but save you the trip across Paros to Pounta, which is handy if you are staying in the capital or arriving on a ferry from elsewhere.

Antiparos has no airport, so every visitor arrives by boat from Paros. That makes Paros the gateway: you reach it from Piraeus, Rafina or Lavrio on the mainland, or from other islands, and then make the short final hop. Fares on the local boats are not listed in our sources, so check the booking page for the price on your date.

How long the crossing takes

Ferryhopper gives a range of 7 to 30 minutes, and the difference comes down to which port you leave from. From Pounta, on the south-west coast of Paros, the distance to Antiparos is only about 0.7 nautical miles (roughly 1.3 km), and the car ferry covers it in around 7 minutes. From Parikia, the main port, the trip is about 4.9 nautical miles (roughly 9 km), so the boats take up to about half an hour. Weather can add a few minutes, especially when the wind is up in the strait. There are no high-speed boats on either crossing.

Paros gives you two places to catch the Antiparos boat, and the right one depends on where you are staying. Parikia, the capital and main harbour, is a walk from any room in town; from Naoussa, 10 km away, or from the airport, come by bus or taxi. The big ships to Athens and the other islands use the same terminal, so the quay is crowded in summer and an hour's margin is sensible. Pounta, on the south-west coast, is the car-ferry port, a 7.5 km trip from Parikia (Naoussa is 17.9 km away) by car, bus or taxi. It is a quiet spot with a car park and a few places to stay and eat, and since the Antiparos shuttle is nearly all it handles, queues there are short.

Boats arrive at Antiparos town, the island's only real village, right on its small harbour. It is compact and made for walking: a pedestrian main street runs from the harbour up to the square, past cafés and small shops, and the old Venetian Kastro quarter sits at the heart of the village. Most hotels and studios are within about five minutes on foot, so many visitors need no transport at all. If you want your own wheels, bring the car across on the Pounta ferry; for the stalactite cave and the beaches beyond town, sort out transport once you land or before you travel.

Because the crossing is so short, the boats are simple. There are no cabins and no numbered seats: you sit where you like, often on an open deck, and the journey is over almost as soon as you have settled. Luggage rules are relaxed and there is no check-in, but some smaller vessels have no dedicated luggage area, so keep bags compact and close to you. Pet rules on these small local boats are set by each operator, so check at the ticket office before you board with an animal.

The strait between Paros and Antiparos is narrow and fairly sheltered, but it is still exposed to the meltemi, the strong north wind of July and August. On the windiest days the small boats can be slowed or suspended, and the port authority can hold departures when conditions are unsafe. A cancelled crossing is rebooked or refunded by the local operator. Meltemi spells can last several days, so if you have an onward ferry or a flight from Paros, cross back a day early when strong wind is forecast.
