This crossing takes you from one of the busiest islands in Greece to one of the calmest. Koufonisia, in the Small Cyclades south-east of Naxos, is a pair of low islets: Ano Koufonisi, where everyone lives and the ferries dock, and Kato Koufonisi, almost empty and reached only by small local boats. The draw is simple: turquoise water, sandy coves, a single small village and no need for a car. Many travellers come here straight after Mykonos to slow right down.
It is a seasonal, high-speed-only route. Seajets is the sole operator, running from April to October, and every fare on the line is a high-speed fare, which makes this one of the pricier short trips in the Cyclades. When we checked, the lowest adult ticket on Ferryhopper was €88.70.
Journey times vary more than you might expect. The direct runs take 1 hour 20 to 1 hour 30 minutes, but some Seajets boats call at other islands on the way; on 12 August 2026, the day we sampled, the morning Super Jet 2 took 4 hours 45 minutes while the afternoon Super Jet took just 1 hour 30 minutes. Always check the arrival time before you book.
Travel light and plan the far end. There are no car ferries to bring a vehicle on this route, and on Koufonisia you will not need one: the port is in the heart of the village, a short walk from shops, tavernas and the main beaches. Book your return or onward boat early, as departures are limited and fill up in summer.
