The Easter Spectacle
If there is one time to witness Folegandros at its most magical, it is Greek Easter. The island hosts a unique tradition where the icon of the Virgin Mary is carried in a procession from house to house throughout the Chora and the Kastro, with every door open to welcome the icon and visitors with raki and sweets. It is a deeply moving, community-wide event.
The August Squeeze
Folegandros is geographically tiny. In July and August, the demand for rooms far outstrips supply, and the small squares of the Chora become packed. Restaurant reservations are mandatory. For a romantic experience that allows for spontaneity, June and September are far superior.
