Ano Koufonisi is tiny; you can walk from the port to the furthest beach (Pori) in 40 minutes. In July and August, the island reaches saturation point. Bicycles clog the roads, and towel space on the beaches is non-existent.

The Golden Window

To experience the true magic of Koufonisia, early June and late September are the only rational choices. The water is swimmable, the beach bars are open, but the crushing crowds are absent. Kato Koufonisi, accessible by a small boat, remains a sanctuary for campers and nudists even in high season.
