04Planning advice

How to plan your Sifnos stay.

When to book

Peak season July–August; book 2–3 months ahead. September is exceptional in Sifnos, the famous Nikolaos Tselementes food festival. May–June and September–October offer the best value with warm weather and open tavernas.

Practical tips

Ferries from Piraeus take 4–5 hours. The bus network connects all villages well. A car or ATV is useful for remote beaches and monastery visits. Sifnos is walkable between villages via ancient paths, the hiking network is one of the best in the Cyclades.

How to choose

Stay in Apollonia for restaurants and nightlife, Kastro for atmosphere and views, Kamares for beach and ferry access, or Platis Gialos for sand and pottery. Foodies should prioritise Apollonia, walking distance to the island's best restaurants.

For families

Sifnos is wonderfully family-friendly with calm beaches (Kamares, Platis Gialos, Vathi), pottery workshops that welcome children, and hiking trails manageable for young walkers. The island's culinary culture means even fussy eaters find dishes they love.

For couples

Kastro at sunset is one of the most romantic experiences in Greece. Dine at a cliffside taverna, walk ancient paths between whitewashed chapels, book a cooking class for two, and stay in a boutique hotel where the owner brings breakfast to your terrace. Sifnos is romance without pretension.
