Inter-Island Travel FAQ.
- There are no scheduled commercial flights between Cyclades islands. Private charters such as Cycladic Air aside, island-hopping is by ferry: high-speed catamarans take 30 minutes to 3 hours depending on the route.
- High-speed ferries. Naxos to Paros takes about 30 minutes, Mykonos to Naxos about 45 minutes, and Santorini to Mykonos about 2 hours 15 minutes in summer.
- Book online with the operators (SeaJets, Blue Star Ferries and others) or an aggregator. In July and August book at least two weeks ahead; shoulder-season ferries rarely sell out.
- Fly into one airport island (for example Santorini), hop between islands by ferry, then fly home from another airport island (for example Mykonos). You avoid the ferry back to Athens and save 5 to 8 hours.
- Sailings can be cancelled when winds reach Force 7 on the Beaufort scale, mostly affecting small, fast boats and winter crossings. The meltemi blows in July to September, but large ferries rarely cancel.
- Naxos and Paros have the most frequent link: five to eight high-speed sailings a day in summer, about 30 minutes. Mykonos and Santorini also connect well to both. Milos is more remote, with fewer daily sailings.
