🕳️ The Cave
1. The Cave of Agios Ioannis
Iraklia's headline attraction: a large cave system in the south of the island, hung with stalactites and stalagmites, dedicated to St John. The hike there (around 1.5–2 hours from Panagia) passes a tiny chapel at the entrance, an adventurous, rewarding day out. Bring a torch and good shoes.
🏘️ Villages
2. Agios Georgios (the Port)
The main village, gathered around the harbour with a sheltered sandy beach, a few tavernas and rooms, and a friendly, sleepy atmosphere.
3. Panagia (Chora)
The inland village on the slopes of Mount Papas, with traditional houses, the island's main church, and a big festival on August 15.

4. Livadi
The island's best beach: a broad, sandy, shallow bay a short walk from the port, with calm turquoise water and a little tavern.
5. Tourkopigado & Alimia
Quieter coves reachable on foot or by boat, Alimia is a beautiful sandy bay on the west coast popular with passing yachts.

6. Climb Mount Papas
The island's modest summit offers wide views over the Small Cyclades; a marked trail climbs from Panagia.
7. Walk to Merichas
A coastal footpath leads to the cove of Merichas and other hidden inlets, the island's old paths are its main highways.
8. Slow Days & Local Tavernas
Iraklia is for unwinding: swim, walk, and eat simple home cooking, goat, local cheese, fresh fish, at the tavernas in Agios Georgios and Panagia under the stars.
