The west-coast beach strip from Agios Prokopios down through Plaka to Mikri Vigla is essentially one long run of sand with villas scattered behind it, and the island's farming interior keeps tavernas honest and prices grounded. You give up the caldera drama of Santorini and the scene of Mykonos; you get space, shallow water and the best value-per-bedroom in the islands.
