About this experience
The tour departs daily from the old port of Fira , at 11:00 in the morning and at 14:30. After only 15 minutes by boat, we'll be arriving at the volcano bay, where we'll be docking for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, during which, if you want, you can follow the path to the top, where the active craters are. Next, we'll be moving to the island of Palaia Kammeni for the hot springs, the famous mud baths, which were formed as a result of a series of volcanic eruptions. The temperature of the water in the small bay of Agios Nikolaos changes with the months, but it tends to be warmer than the typical sea currents in the area. The boat will be staying there for about 30 minutes to allow you a healthy bath. After the bath, you will return to the old port of Fira.
The excursion starts from the picturesque Old Port of Santorini. This port is only accessible by cable car , which is the most common way, as it takes only 3 minutes to go down, or you have to descend 587 steps on foot. Important Note: You have to pay 10€ more per way for the cable car ticket. Gialos, the Old Port, lies below Fira, nestled at the foot of a rocky cliff. You will be surprised by the steep slopes of the Caldera and, finally, the tiny port will appear under these huge rocks and the cave houses that seem to dangle on the cliff. There, the guides of your excursion will be waiting for you, to give you all the important information and to orientate you on the boat. For more information or clarifications, don’t hesitate to visit our travel agency which is located down at the port.
Our first destination will be the famous volcano of Santorini ! After sailing for 20 minutes, we will reach Nea Kammeni’s jetty. Should you be interested to be guided to the volcano, you have to pay 5 euros per person as an entrance fee. Then, you will walk to the volcano’s ridge with your guide who is going to explain to you everything about the history and the geology of the volcano. You will stay at the volcanic island for 1.5 hours and, after that, you will embark again for the next stop.
Our next stop will be the island of Palaia Kammeni, where the famous hot springs are located on the west side, a place that is really popular for its thermal waters. We will stop there for 30 minutes at a distance of 30 meters from the shallow waters of Agios Nicholaos Beach (The Hot Springs). Take a dive off the boat and feel the warmth of these extraordinary waters. The waters are also full of sulfur, iron, and other metals coming from the volcano and they are very good for the skin, rheumatism, arthritis, and other physical pains.
Important Note: In order to reach Agios Nicholaos Beach (the Hot Springs), it is essential to have very good swimming skills.
After departing from your last destination, the tour will finish at the Old Port of Fira. After your disembarkation, you should choose one of the aforementioned available ways to go back to Fira town.

- Nadia T.3 Jun 2026 4.0Highly recommend the tour!
Highly recommend the tour! The tour leaves at 11.00, however they recommend to be there at least at 10.15. They said we could board the boat at 10.45, but the boat was early and we could board at 10.30. So I recommend to come no earlier than 10.15. Since in the old port, there is not much to do. We took the stairs down, which was nice in the morning because it was mostly shade. There are donkey's on the stairs and some are in the road and unsupervised. If you are scared of the donkey's, I would not recommend taking the stairs. In the afternoon we took the cable cart back up, which is an extra 10 euro's per person. We only had to wait for 5 minutes and the trip back up was very short. The first stop is the volcano, which cost an extra 5 euro's. You can buy the tickets there or online. We got a guided tour of the volcano from one of the boat crew, which was very nice. The walk was less hard than expected, but I do recommend proper shoes (no flip-flops), a sunhat and some water (at least 0.5L per person). After the volcano we went to the hot springs, which were less hot than expected (for us) but still very nice! You can do a mud bath there as well. If you don't have a dark swimsuit (which is recommended), you can clean your swimsuit afterwards at home with bakingsoda, which takes out most of the stains! You cannot enter the hot springs if you're a bad swimmer, because it is quite deep and far from the boat. The crew is very nice. The only reason for 4 stars in stead of 5 was that there was no free water on the boat.
