14 Best Things to Do in Andros 2026

Last updated: May 17, 2026 · The hiking capital of the Cyclades
Andros is the greenest, most mountainous, and least touristy of the major Cycladic islands. With 300+ km of marked trails, world-class art museums, and wild beaches reached only on foot, it's the antidote to Mykonos.

🥾 Hiking & Nature
1. Menites Waterfalls Trail
A stunning gorge hike through the lush green interior of Andros — one of the only places in the Cyclades with year-round running water. The trail passes ancient stone bridges, water mills, and a series of cascading waterfalls. 2–3 hours, moderate.
2. Achla Beach Trail
Hike through a dramatic gorge to reach Achla — Andros's most beautiful beach. Pristine sand, crystal water, and zero vehicle access. The 1.5-hour descent through ancient olive groves is half the experience. Bring everything — no facilities.
3. Dipotamata Gorge
A deep canyon with Venetian bridges, stone water mills, and rare biodiversity. One of the most impressive natural landmarks in the Cyclades. The full trail takes 4–5 hours (one-way). Arrange car pickup at the end.
4. Andros Trail Race (October)
An annual ultra-trail race attracting international athletes to Andros's 300km network. Even if you don't race, October is the best month for hiking — cooler temperatures, golden light, empty trails.
🏛️ Culture & Art
5. Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA Andros)
A world-class museum in Chora hosting rotating exhibitions of major international artists (previous: Rodin, Picasso, Matisse). Founded by the Goulandris shipping family. A cultural surprise in the Cyclades.
6. Andros Archaeological Museum
Houses important finds from the island's long history — including the famous Hermes of Andros marble statue. Small but excellent.
7. Explore Chora and the Venetian Castle
Andros Town (Chora) is elegant and refined — neoclassical mansions, marble-paved streets, shipping magnate philanthropy, and a dramatic Venetian castle connected to the mainland by a stone arch bridge. The castle peninsula offers views of the open Aegean on both sides.
🏖️ Beaches
8. Vitali Beach
A remote east-coast beach reached by dirt road — wild, dramatic, with a river running into the sea creating a natural freshwater pool. Untouched, unspoiled, unforgettable.
9. Tis Grias to Pidima (Old Lady's Jump)
A dramatic rock formation rising from turquoise water next to a small beach. According to legend, an old woman leapt from the cliff rather than betray the island to invaders. Swimming here is surreal.
10. Fellos Beach
A long, wide sandy beach on the northwest coast. Family-friendly, with shallow water and a beach bar. One of the few organized beaches on Andros.
🍽️ Food & Village Life
11. Traditional Taverna in Apikia Village
The mountain village of Apikia sits beside the Sariza spring — the source of Andros's famous mineral water. Eat at traditional tavernas serving local meats, wild greens, and foustoukota (walnut cookies).
12. Explore Stenies and Korthion Villages
Stone-built mountain villages with Venetian tower houses (pyrgoi), ancient plane trees, and elderly locals who've never left the island. Authentic Greece preserved in amber.
13. Taste Fourtalia
Andros's signature dish: a fluffy omelet made with local sausage, potatoes, and herbs. Simple, hearty, and absolutely delicious. Available at every village taverna.
14. Visit a Dovecote (Pigeon Tower)
Andros has hundreds of ornate stone dovecotes scattered across the landscape — Venetian-era structures with intricate geometric patterns. The concentration around Apikia and Stenies is spectacular.
