The Easter Phenomenon

Syros is famous for its Easter celebrations. It is one of the few places in the world where the Catholic and Orthodox communities celebrate Easter simultaneously (usually on the Orthodox date). The processions from the two hills (Ano Syros and Vrontado) meeting in the main square are spectacular.

Syros focuses on culture over beaches. July is the month for the Festival of the Aegean (opera and classical music) and the International Film Festival.
