Kimolos is a small volcanic island just across the strait from Milos, named after the chalk (kimolia) once mined here. It offers the same dramatic geology and turquoise water as its famous neighbour but with a fraction of the visitors and a deeply traditional feel.

🏖️ Beaches
1. Prassa
The island's showpiece: fine white sand against electric-turquoise shallows, sheltered and shallow enough for families. One of the most beautiful beaches in the western Cyclades.
2. Aliki & Bonatsa
Two long sandy bays on the south coast, calm and shallow with a few tavernas, ideal for an easy beach day.
3. Dekas, Kalamitsi & Soufi
A string of smaller coves around the coast, some sandy, some pebbly, several reachable on foot or by boat.

4. The Medieval Chora
Kimolos's capital is one of the best-preserved island towns in the Cyclades, with a fortified inner core (the Mesa Kastro) of houses built wall-to-wall for defence. Wander its lanes and squares.
5. The Kastro & Churches
Within the Chora, the ruined Venetian Kastro and beautiful churches like the Panagia Odigitria tell the island's long story. A small folklore and archaeological collection adds context.
🪨 Nature & Geology
6. The Skiadi Rock
A natural geological wonder: a mushroom-shaped rock sculpted by wind erosion, perched in the island's interior. A short hike from the road reaches it.
7. Natural Thermal Springs
Near Prassa, warm geothermal water seeps into the sea, you can find naturally heated spots to soak, a reminder of the island's volcanic origins.
8. Hike the Old Trails
Kimolos has a network of walking paths linking Chora, the beaches and the abandoned settlement and mines, great for exploring on foot in spring and autumn.

9. Boat Trip to Polyaigos
The uninhabited islet of Polyaigos, between Kimolos and Milos, is the largest uninhabited island in the Aegean and a protected Natura 2000 site with staggering turquoise lagoons. Day boats run from Kimolos in summer.
10. Eat at Psathi & Local Tavernas
The little port of Psathi and the Chora have excellent, unpretentious tavernas, look for fresh fish, ladenia (a Kimolian flatbread similar to pizza) and local cheese.
