Authenticity: Folegandros has 800 permanent residents and limits daily visitor numbers. Locals still outnumber tourists in September. No cruise ships: Folegandros has no cruise ship port. Chora on a cliff: Arguably as dramatic as Oia but with none of the crowds. Walking to Panagia church (only accessible on foot, up 300 steps) rivals any Santorini experience. Santorini's caldera views are physically larger and more dramatic (the caldera is 12km wide, a sunken volcanic crater). Santorini has far more infrastructure: 300+ hotels, dozens of restaurants, a wine industry, Akrotiri. Folegandros has perhaps 30 hotels total and a handful of excellent tavernas.
