Because of its proximity to Athens (1 hour ferry), Kea fills up on weekends, especially in summer. The marinas at Vourkari are packed with yachts. For a tranquil visit, mid-week travel is highly recommended.

The Hiking Season

Kea has arguably the best-preserved network of ancient paths (kalderimi) in the Cyclades, signposted as a network of 12 routes. Spring (March-May) is the absolute peak season for walking here. The oak forests provide some shade, but the green landscape is the main draw.

Diving the Wrecks

Kea’s waters hold the wreck of the HMHS Britannic (sister ship to the Titanic). This is a technical dive for experts, best undertaken in the calm windows of late summer.
