The August Phenomenon
Unusually for a quiet island, Anafi has a specific peak in August. This is when the island becomes a gathering point for a dedicated community of free campers and young Greeks who congregate at Roukounas beach. The vibe is communal, bohemian, and vibrant. If you seek this unique social atmosphere, August is the best time. However, if you crave the solitude that Anafi is famous for, June and September are superior. In these shoulder months, you can have the monolith of Kalamos and the monastery of Kalamiotissa largely to yourself.
The Challenge of Access
Anafi is the end of the line. Ferry connections are less frequent than in the central Cyclades. The journey from Piraeus is long (often 10+ hours), and connections from Santorini can be sporadic in the low season. It is essential to plan your arrival carefully.
